Skills in Demand Visa (Subclass 482)
The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (subclass 482) has been restructured into the Skills in Demand (SID) Visa, introducing new streams and requirements to better address Australia’s labor shortages.
Overview of the Skills in Demand Visa (subclass 482):
This visa allows employers to address labor shortages by bringing in skilled workers when they cannot source appropriately skilled Australian workers.
Streams:
1. Core Skills Stream:
- Duration: Work in Australia for up to 4 years or up to 5 years if you are a Hong Kong passport holder.
- Travel: Unlimited travel to and from Australia while the visa is valid.
- Permanent Residency: Eligible to apply for permanent residency if requirements are met.
2. Specialist Skills Stream (NEW):
- Eligibility: For highly skilled workers in specialized occupations.
- Duration: Work in Australia for up to 4 years or up to 5 years if you are a Hong Kong passport holder.
- Salary Requirement: Must meet a higher salary threshold than other streams.
- Travel: Unlimited travel to and from Australia while the visa is valid.
- Permanent Residency: Pathway to permanent residency if eligible.
3. Labour Agreement Stream:
- Eligibility: For skilled workers nominated by employers with a Labour Agreement.
- Duration: Work in Australia for up to 4 years or up to 5 years if you are a Hong Kong passport holder, depending on the terms of the labor agreement.
- Travel: Unlimited travel to and from Australia while the visa is valid.
- Permanent Residency: Eligible to apply for permanent residency if requirements are met.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Nomination: Be nominated to work in an occupation on the list of eligible skilled occupations.
- Work Experience: Have at least 1 year of relevant full-time work experience in your nominated occupation or a related field within the last 5 years.
- Skills Assessment: Obtain a relevant skills assessment if required for your occupation.
- Employment: Work only for your sponsor or associated entity, unless exempt.
English Language Requirement:
- All Streams:
- IELTS: Overall score of 5.0, with a minimum score of 5.0 in each component.
- Other Tests: Equivalent scores in other approved English language tests are also accepted.
